Deodorant Donation Drive: Support the Homeless

As we approach May, a month filled with opportunities to give back, Promise Hill Project is kicking off a special fundraiser to celebrate our founder, Lisa Arbogast’s birthday on May 21st. This year, we’re focusing on a collection of deodorant to help provide basic hygiene supplies for our homeless neighbors.

Our goal? To collect 400 full-sized deodorants to distribute to individuals experiencing homelessness in the Dallas area.

The Importance of Deodorant for the Homeless 

When we think of essential hygiene products, deodorant often doesn’t come to mind. However, for people experiencing homelessness, deodorant can be more than just a hygiene product; it’s a vital part of maintaining personal dignity, health, and even social acceptance.

Here’s why deodorant matters so much for our outside friends:

1. Personal Dignity 

Maintaining a sense of dignity can be challenging for someone struggling with homelessness. Deodorant is a small yet powerful item that helps preserve personal hygiene and gives individuals a sense of self-worth. Being able to smell clean is not just about physical appearance; it’s about holding onto a sense of pride during a difficult time.

2. Social Acceptance 

Body odor can lead to stigmatization and rejection, making it even harder to interact with others. Whether it’s a job interview, an encounter with a potential mentor, or just walking down the street, the confidence that comes from smelling fresh can break down barriers and promote social acceptance. Having deodorant gives individuals a fighting chance at being seen and treated with respect, despite their circumstances.

So far, Promise Hill Project has distributed nearly 2000 deodorants , and we want to continue that effort by ensuring that each individual we serve gets a full-sized product.

This May, in honor of Lisa’s birthday, we’ve set a goal to collect 400 full-sized deodorants for distribution to our homeless neighbors.

Instead of asking for monetary donations this year, we’re focusing on this deodorant collection because we know that even small items like deodorant can make a big difference in someone’s life. By providing a full-sized product, we are giving our outside friends a resource to further maintain personal care and dignity.

If you’re local to the Dallas area, we are accepting physical product donations. You can drop off your deodorant donations at our office, or we would be happy to pick them up within the Dallas area. Contact us to arrange a pick-up.

3. Monetary Donations for Deodorant: 

If you prefer to make a monetary donation, we’ve set up a dropdown on our website donation page where you can contribute funds earmarked for purchasing deodorants. Your donation will help us reach our goal of collecting 400 deodorants.
